Sunday, June 15th

4:30am could not come soon enough. Driving in the dark rocks…seriously. After saying the goodbyes to the family, I went to pick up matt and his suitcase that is the size of my car. We then made our way to pick up lance pants in Ocala. We had a heavenly breakfast that Lance’s dad made, and then we continued on to our destination. Chic-fil-a donated 44 coupons for us to use on our trip. For lunch we went out of our way about 25 minutes in desperate search for that glorious restaurant, only to remember that it was Sunday.

We arrived at the Brown’s around 5ish that evening. The seven hundred mile car ride seemed to pass fairly quickly thanks to the ting tings, phoenix, the new coldplay CD, group 1 crew (mine and Lance’s fave), and the three of us punching each other over a game we were making up as we went. We we’re actually staying about 45min. out side of Charlotte in a city called Chester-I don’t think it’s even on the map.

Monday, June 16th

After some unfortunate contact issues we had to resort to plan B. We went to the uptown shelter in Charlotte on a whim. Praying something would come out of it. We met with Mrs. Linda Miller who is the volunteer director; after sharing what we were doing, She was extremely excited about the project and knew of a few people who would be willing to talk to us.

When we finished talking to Linda we left and took the Metro into downtown Charlotte. Lance played Texas hold’em with some homeless guys in the park, I joined in with some homeless guys playing chess and Matt went to starbucks to do some prob and stats homework. We learned so much during that brief time in the park. The people, we usually are so quick to judge, let kids like us join in on their games. Within minutes it was like we knew them for years, joking and laughing just like we would with any of our closest friends.

Tuesday, June 17th

Waking up to a southern breakfast and strong coffee is the best way to start off a long day of fun. We arrived at the uptown shelter around 10:30am and were immediately greeted with hospitality and an in depth interview with a testimony that would break the heart of a rock from James Covington. After we went on a tour of the facilities then on to painting, some landscaping, and working in the kitchen with some lovely ladies from a catholic church. Through the day we were able to hangout and talk to so many amazing people. It was a good day and the last full one in Charlotte.
